Getting Engagement on Social Media:

Your Call To Action

Social media can seem like an enigma wrapped in a paradox for some business owners. And as you scroll through platforms like Instagram or Facebook, you may wonder how some of these posts go absolutely viral, leading you to wonder: Why aren’t my posts getting so popular?

Getting a post to go viral is a matter of (mostly) luck and working the algorithm so users can find your content. Fortunately, for most accounts, there are some steps you can take to garner attention to your posts and boost engagement. Engagement is good. You want engagement. Why? Because engagement means more conversions, which means more clicks, website visits, queries, and sales for your business.

If the idea of social media still seems daunting, Ghost Brands is here to help. We are more than a digital marketing agency; we specialize in branding, graphic design, SEO, website design, videography, and many ways to help your business succeed and grow.

  1. Use strong imperatives.

An imperative is a command. People respond to commands. Depending on your goal, try using words like buy, save, subscribe, earn, share, and tell. Why are imperatives critical to your CTA? Clear communication is vital. You want to tell your followers exactly what you want them to do. Ambiguous wording will leave users bored, and they’ll keep scrolling.

   2. Elicit strong emotion.

Your CTA should make people feel something. Whether wanting to save on a great deal or getting excited about a dream trip, it’s no secret that strong emotions can make people act.

   3. FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) is your ally.

FOMO, the fear of missing out, is a real phenomenon. It has blossomed in the last twenty years with the booming growth of the digital age. Everyone wants to know the hot take, the hottest place, and what everyone else is doing. By using people’s fear of missing out to your advantage, you can turn a well-worded post into a ton of engagement and conversions. To invoke FOMO in users, use language like Don’t miss out on your 50% off! Get yours today before we sell out! This offer is for a limited time only!

   4. Give your audience a reason to be engaged.

Whether you’re offering a free consultation for the comment with the most likes or simply asking users for their number one struggle within your industry (and offering advice or guidance in a reply), users should gain something from your post. Make it enticing. Your post should make users want to reply to you.

    5. Include your CTA in the graphic.

If you only include your call to action in the caption, users may not see it. By having it in the graphic (perhaps in some bright colors that stand out from the rest of the post), users are more likely to take notice. You still want to include it in the caption, but people are likelier to see a strong CTA in an image as they scroll through their social media.
